Current Projects
Our research projects generally focus on understanding risk factors for experiencing alcohol-induced blackouts and other alcohol-related consequences in young adults. We use intensive measurement designs with wearable alcohol biosensors and frequent, brief mobile surveys to study alcohol use in daily life.
What is an alcohol-induced blackout? Blackouts are common among young adults who drink and are characterized by periods of memory loss resulting from rapid or excessive alcohol consumption. During a blackout, individuals remain awake and may appear fully conscious, yet they are unable to form new memories. This state can increase vulnerability to alcohol-related harms and risky behaviors.
